NJ’s Digital Game Industry Contributed $50M to State
New Jersey’s digital game industry contributed $50 million to the state’s economy in 2009 and employed 338 people, mostly programmers, artists, animators and designers, according to the Entertainment Software Association. There are about 45 game companies in New Jersey and New York, NJ.com reports.
Game developers in the state are switching from a few store-sold large budget game titles with multiple year development plans, to digitally distributed games with smaller teams and development time lines. One NJ company, Vogster will be releasing a game in December called Unbound Saga, which will be downloaded to the Microsoft Xbox for about $10. It was created by six people for ‘a fraction’ of what the company’s earlier $50 game CrimeCraft cost to develop.
